“Herald of Pancreatic Club” advocates and adheres to the established ethical standards for scientific publication, and ensures that its editors and publishers follow the guidelines recommended by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), and the Ukrainian Council of Science Editors. In its publishing activities, the editorial team adheres to international copyright regulations, current Ukrainian legislation, and international publishing standards.

The authors are fully responsible for the reliability of their articles’ content.
To avoid plagiarism or the use of third-party research results, we request that authors adhere to the scientific citation ethics. According to the decision of the Editor-in-Chief, the submitted manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using anti-plagiarism software to detect borrowings from the works of third parties without appropriate references to the sources. The Reviewer also determines whether or not the manuscript contains instances of plagiarism.

All authors who contributed to the study’s conception, design, and execution should be listed in the manuscript. Before submitting a paper for publication, all co-authors must approve the final draft and give their consent for publication. Other contributors who funded the research, selected the materials, etc., cannot be listed as authors. They can be recognized within the “Acknowledgments” section.

“Herald of Pancreatic Club” publishes papers under the CREATIVE COMMONS license conditions for open access journals.

The authors agree to the following copyright conditions:

  1. The authors retain the right to authorship of their paper and grant the Journal the right of initial publication of this paper under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which permits others to freely distribute the published paper with obligatory reference to the authors and the initial publication of the paper in the Journal.
  2. The authors may enter into independent additional agreements for non-exclusive use of the paper in the form in which it was published in the Journal (e.g., to publish as part of a monograph), provided that reference is made to the paper’s initial publication in the Journal.

The authors must disclose to the editors any potential conflicts of interest that could be interpreted as influencing the results or their interpretation in the manuscript. In any case, the authors should state that there are no financial or other potential conflicts of interest that could influence the study or disclose any such potential conflicts. The authors are required to submit a signed Conflict of Interest Statement (ICMJE forms) (http://www.icmje.org/disclosure-of-interest/) detailing all entities and relationships that could potentially influence the content of the submitted manuscript.

Research involving patients or animals must adhere to internationally recognized norms and consensus (Helsinki Declaration, 2013 edition (https://www.wma.net/policies-post/wma-declaration-of-helsinki-ethical-principles-for-medical-research-involving-human-subjects)). Patients’ photographs must be provided either with their written consent or in a way that prevents identification.

All authors are required to obtain approval from an independent local, regional, or national regulatory body (e.g., an ethics committee or institutional review board) prior to conducting the study. The patients’ right to privacy should not be violated without their informed consent. Identifying information, such as names, initials, or hospital numbers, should not be included in case descriptions and photo captions, unless such information is essential for scientific purposes and the patient (or parent or guardian) provides written informed consent for publication, stipulating that the patient will review the manuscript prior to publication. Authors should inform patients whether any potentially identifiable information may be made available online and in print after publication. If informed consent is obtained, this should be indicated in the article’s information.

When reporting animal experiments, authors should indicate whether institutional and national standards for the care and use of laboratory animals were adhered to. The Consensus Guidelines on Veterinary Ethics and Welfare of Animals of the International Association of Veterinary Editors provide further guidelines on the ethics of animal research (http://www.veteditors.org/consensus-author-guidelines-on-animal-ethics-and-welfare-for-editors). All experiments on animals must also adhere to the ARRIVE guidelines (https://www.nc3rs.org.uk/arrive-guidelines) and EU Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes (http://ec.europa.eu/environment/chemicals/lab_animals/legislation_en.htm).

The summary should contain the same headings as the article, including “Research Objective”, “Materials and Methods”, “Results”, and “Conclusion”.

The publications should include the following sections: a general research problem and its relation to important scientific and practical tasks; an analysis of recent research and publications on the topic that initiated the solution of this problem; formulation of previously unresolved issues of a general problem to which this article is devoted; article objectives; presentation of the main research material with well-grounded scientific results; findings of the study; perspectives for further research in this field.

Text Requirements

Times New Roman, 12 font size, 1.5 spacing (original research — up to 12 pages; review, lecture, or problem article — up to 15 pages; brief information — up to 5 pages; clinical case — up to 7 pages). In some cases, the Editor-in-Chief may decide to increase the article’s length.

The CARE standard (https://www.care-statement.org) governs clinical case reporting requirements, while the CONSORT standard (http://www.consort-statement.org) governs randomized research reporting requirements. Standards and guidelines for all forms of medical research and medical fields are available at: https://www.equator-network.org.

Figures, tables, diagrams, and formulas should be included in the text.

Tables must be formatted in Microsoft Office Word. Other illustrations (photographs, figures, graphs, diagrams, etc.) must be titled «Fig.» and numbered in the order in which they appear in the document. Charts and graphs are embedded within the text alongside the raw data used to create them. Pictures are submitted in TIFF format (at least 300 dpi), while graphs and diagrams are submitted either in EPS or AI format. Photographs, echograms, and professional hand-drawn illustrations are submitted in electronic format (they must be scanned at 300 dpi in the JPG or TIFF format). Each figure should have a concise caption, and symbols on figures should be clear even when reduced to the Journal’s column width.

References
References must be numbered in alphabetical order.

In-text citations are denoted by numbering enclosed in square brackets.

The total number of sources should not exceed 50, and 50% of them should have been published within the past five years. In some cases, the Editor-in-Chief may increase the number of sources required for lectures and literature reviews.

References should follow the Vancouver citation style [Requirements] [Examples].

If available, references to publications should include DOI, PMID, and PMCID. If not available, the article’s URL must be specified. All sources should preferably be accessible online.
PubMed uses the Vancouver style (with DOI, PMID, and PMCID). To extract the precise article description from this database, it is necessary to find the “Cite” button to the right of the article’s title on the source page. When you click on it, the “Citation Text” window will appear, where you can select Format: “NLM” in the lower right corner and “Copy” in the lower left corner. This is a Vancouver-style link that includes a DOI and PMID (PMCID). If the DOI cannot be found from PubMed, search http://search.crossref.org or http://www.citethisforme.com for it. To obtain information regarding DOI, type the English title of the article into the search bar.

If the cited source is in a language that uses the Cyrillic alphabet, its bibliographic description is provided either in English (if the article has an English abstract) or in transliteration (if there is no English abstract). At the end of the source description, the original article’s language is indicated.

Using automated transliteration systems, it is necessary to transliterate the Cyrillic source descriptions in accordance with the BGN standard:

References to journal articles include the initials and last names of the authors, the full paper title, the standard abbreviated journal or collection title, the year of publication, the volume number, and the first and last pages on which the article appears.

References to the monographs must include the authors’ initials and last names, the title of the book, the place of publication, the date of publication, and the number of pages.

Similarly, references to the sources in foreign languages should be provided.
